Grade 4 and 5 learners had three fun filled days not only trying out many adventure activities at LooLa adventure camp but also supporting the local Bintan community. We travelled by ferry to Bintan Island arriving in time for lunch. We enjoyed a delicious curry and then changed ready for our first activities. One group went coconut tree climbing and sky-walking while the other group went to help build the first of two safe water gardens. Grade 4 and 5 learners both showed their commitment to service through their own action of raising money to build two safe water gardens. These safe water gardens now provide clean and uncontaminated water to cook, grow crops and wash their dishes with. Following their hard work building the garden we returned to the camp to have dinner and most students were quickly asleep. The next day brought more adventures including a boat trip out to jump into the water and along the boom net. We also kayaked and dragon kayaked to the small island opposite LooLa. In the afternoon we became dare devils and thrill seekers again and of us face our fears as we scaled a rock climbing walls and flew down flying foxes into the ocean! After another busy day we made some pizza and had dinner. Our night ended around the campfire with spooky songs written by the learners as well as songs. Our last day included some soccer games and buying some local crafts to further support the community. We boarded the bus to the ferry terminal and we were back in Singapore where everyone was so happy to see their parents and share the fun they’d had at camp.
