Grade 4 and 5 learners had three fun filled days not only trying out many adventure activities at LooLa adventure camp but also supporting the local Bintan community. We travelled by ferry to Bintan Island arriving in time for lunch. We enjoyed a delicious curry and then changed ready for our first activities. One group went coconut tree climbing and sky-walking while the other group went to help build the first of two safe water gardens. Grade 4 and 5 learners both showed their commitment to service through their own action of raising money to build two safe water gardens. These safe water gardens now provide clean and uncontaminated water to cook, grow crops and wash their dishes with. Following their hard work building the garden we returned to the camp to have dinner and most students were quickly asleep. The next day brought more adventures including a boat trip out to jump into the water and along the boom net. We also kayaked and dragon kayaked to the small island opposite LooLa. In the afternoon we became dare devils and thrill seekers again and of us face our fears as we scaled a rock climbing walls and flew down flying foxes into the ocean! After another busy day we made some pizza and had dinner. Our night ended around the campfire with spooky songs written by the learners as well as songs. Our last day included some soccer games and buying some local crafts to further support the community. We boarded the bus to the ferry terminal and we were back in Singapore where everyone was so happy to see their parents and share the fun they’d had at camp.

Grade 4 went on a field trip to Parliament House and we learnt about the parts of the Singapore Parliament. We learnt about the President and the Prime Minister of Singapore. There was a very high level of security so we had to go through a scanner and be checked.
Then we saw a room where people think about all of the good ideas and laws of Singapore. Parliament House is along the river. At the back there was a dark room which is the only room to discuss and talk. Everywhere else we had to be quiet. By Kotaro and Bosco. On Wednesday, we created designs on A3 paper about what would be our ultimate classroom. Each group presented their classroom design. Everybody smiled and was happy. We enjoyed designing the classroom. There were some great things like holograms, pet rooms and games rooms. We used information from the classroom to design our own classroom. It was fun day. By Kotaro and Bosco.
Last Friday during heritage time we were able to share about Japanese culture. Five students in 4.1 presented. Their names are Koshiro, Kansuke, Kotaro, Haruya and Rintaro. We were the teachers. Also every one learned Japanese words, every one wrote Japanese greeting The greetings were konnichiwa (hello), arigato (thank you), konbawa (good evening), oyasumi (good night) and ohayo (good morning). Some students wrote their names in Japanese. It was a lot of fun sharing about our Japanese heritage. By Koshiro and Kansuke!
This week, we researched about learning styles and about the brain works for different learning styles. Today, we presented our information to class (just 4.1) and also we learned new words. Everyone had a lot of good information and also they worked well as a team, but some people chose to research their own. I think we did good job with searching and presenting. Searching for the information was especially fun! by Koshiro.
Today 4.1 went to Ms. Hima's classroom to learn about science. We learned about magnetism We did an experiment to learn about magnetism. We had to start by making a hypothesis. Then we got a magnet, chalk and paper clips. Then we wrote four lines on the magnet and wrote A, B, C and D in the space. Then we put paper clips by one by one and wrote it how many paper clips each part of the magnet could hold. We learned many things about magnetism and it was a lot of fun. By Kansuke.
Last Friday, we had a house event. There were four teams named Somerset, Raffles, Newton and Orchard. We did many activities and there were many people from the Elementary school and Middle school. The activities were sports, art and music. Then Mr. Tony made us a team song and we chose the house leader. In the end, our Principal Ms Tilney told us witch team won. 1st was Somerset, 2nd was Newton, 3rd was Raffles and 4th was Orchard. We really enjoy the house event! By Koshiro and Kansuke

We have set up an observation post in our classroom to observe the changes and wildlife of the Banyan tree outside our classroom. We have been using our science skills and knowledge to record our findings and take notes about changes and observations, also the nature and wildlife around the tree. Each Tuesday we have been going to swimming lessons. We have been diving and learning about how to save someone who needs help when they can't swim. We have also learnt how to float and how to use different strokes such as freestyle.
